Creating Expressions is a voluntary project that started in 2017. We are a counselling service based in Tottenham that works with children, young people and adults, mainly in Haringey. We provide help, support and guidance with problems and concerns that affect them, their families and their communities.
We have worked in schools from counselling rooms and will work from our clients homes. As counsellors we are Registered Members of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Creating Expressions project is about providing a safe space for young people to explore their thoughts, feelings and fears.
They may have witnessed or experienced crime and violence and are struggling with the
traumatic results. Or they may be feeling angry, frightened, isolated and misunderstood
We aim to give the young people a voice, to help them to travel through the negative effects that their feeling and concerns may have left them with.
By providing a safe space for youths, they will find they can speak freely, be heard and feel valued and respected.
Results have included better communication skills, increased understanding , empathy and new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving as well as enhanced personal relationships.
We help to break the negative thoughts and actions so that young people can fulfil their full potential and take their rightful place in the wider society.
To Improve the quality of the mental health of young adults in the London Borough of Haringey and surrounding areas.
To improve their self-confidence, self-worth and self-esteem as well as giving them a sense of empowerment
To inspire change, helping young people and young adults to fulfil their potential.
By the actions above, improve family relationships, social interactions and therefore improve social cohesion in local communities.
To go some way towards reducing conflict within groups and between individual young people and young adults by providing a space to talk, reflect and explore new ways of thinking and being.
To support young people, their families and friends who have been affected by traumas, violence and crime.
A well-being workshop at the Bruce Grove Youth Space – This took place in the Summer of 2017. It was a facilitated discussion group where young people talked about various topics, including relationships and future goals. We will be running similar workshops this Summer 2018.
The Get Together for Girls Project – These sessions for girls in Secondary Schools in Tottenham takes place each Wednesday evening. It provides a safe space for the exploration of issues that are affecting them, a place where they can communicate and find support.
